The shakuhachi is a Japanese bamboo flute with a history spanning over a thousand years. Traditionally played by Buddhist monks, its music wasn’t built around melody and rhythm as we know them today, but rather around breath, silence, and the natural sounds of wind, water, and rustling leaves.
Originally used for meditation and as part of a monk’s alms practice, the shakuhachi has a uniquely mystical sound that is at once quiet, raw, and deeply expressive
Robin has been studying this instrument for over six years and is now receiving his master certification. In this concert, he invites you on a journey that moves from ancient Buddhist pieces to contemporary Western compositions.
